As equipment and systems have grown in sophistication and complexity, the technical manuals required to operate and maintain them have evolved accordingly. Flipping between text and illustrations and even between multiple manuals has become quite cumbersome, time consuming and confusing. Add to this the process of incorporating changes and purchasing repair parts and you can see the need for changes.

ENTER IETMs–

To help solve this problem, ESSIbuy.com has developed and is providing to its customers an easy, low-cost capability to convert existing or newly authored technical manuals into fully Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM), known as WebTM™. WebTM™ is a Web-Based Electronic Document System that automatically hyperlinks and interactively displays text, illustrations and parts information within each technical manual and any related manuals.

The software easily converts legacy Technical Manual source documents, including Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF), Microsoft Word, SGML, XML, standard ASCII text, or original paper hardcopy irrespective of the DTD that was used to structure the manual.

In comparison with other IETM conversion technologies, the ESSIbuy conversion process is very cost effective. Our experience on a variety of military manuals indicates that the cost to convert a family of TMs using our WebTM™ technology is significantly less than other IETM conversion processes yet provides substantially greater functionality and ease of use.

WebTM™ permits easy navigation through technical manuals to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, identify parts, create maintenance work orders and ultimately order parts directly from the factory or through legacy supply chain systems.

REAL-TIME CHANGE CAPABILITY –

Since IETMs created with WebTM™ are independent of the conversion software, changes and updates can be made in virtual real-time and disseminated to technicians deployed anywhere in the world. If requested, a Sustainment Tool which provides the capability for specified users to maintain, update, and publish changes to all applicable users, can be provided.

Simultaneous Viewing, Panning, and/or Scrolling – of index, graphics, and textual content via frame-based format within index, graphics, and text in separate windows.

Document Content Linked – Indexes are linked to the associated document content for immediate access to Operations, Troubleshooting, Maintenance, and Parts Identification. Simplified Parts Requisitioning Capability – Search, identify and select parts and Point & Click Parts Requisitioning directly from IETM Repair Parts Special Tools List (RPSTL), Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) and Commercial Parts Manuals. The requisitions can be formatted as a standard military requisition which can be transmitted to Legacy Supply Systems, stored and printed for later use or transmitted via the Internet to the ESSIbuy.com Web-based automated sourcing and purchasing system. Extensive Search Capability – surrounding search capability by key word, words, phrase, Part Number, Part Description, National Stock Number, or Electronic Reference Designation within a complete family of Technical Manuals, or a specific Technical Manual.

Easily Updated – An XML to IETM Real Time Sustainment Tool is available that allows updating, modifying and publishing new data for each IETM family including:

o Regeneration of IETMs after changes to XML source data
o Maintenance of image ‘hotspots’ for raster graphics
o Link verification across IETM family
o Recreation of the IETM search engine data base after subsequent XML to IETM conversions
o Assembly of the XML/SGML and graphics source data, and sustainment software for delivery, organized to provide a complete turn-key solution to the government for maintenance and re-issue of the family of IETMs.

Can be Integrated with Diagnostics & Prognostics Sensors – If sensors are embedded, WebTM™ can poll them via RF signal or direct connection into the systems data bus and display changes in condition, faults and required maintenance actions into the ESSIbuy Condition-Based Maintenance & System Health Monitoring System.
